The YKK Widnes Wild would like to update fans on the 2020/21 season.
Currently the English Ice Hockey Association has not agreed a league structure for the 2020/21 season and discussions are ongoing. Based on preliminary discussions we are not expecting any significant changes in terms of the teams competing other that Deeside Dragons not participating and the welcome return of the Coventry Blaze NiHL team.
At the moment ice rink operators and teams are in a situation where it is not realistically possible to plan for audiences to return to ice rinks given both the unknowns of capacities and the potential for future disruption caused by local restrictions. Equally it is not clear on what the consequences of a team testing positive for COVID-19 would have on fixtures.
As a result Planet Ice have made the decision not to commence with any senior ice hockey league games at any of their rinks at any level until the 1st January 2021 at the earliest although pre-season games may be possible in the run up to the beginning of January.
This decision has been made in order to ensure the safety of all involved and to minimise the potential frustration caused by an ice hockey game having to be cancelled at the last moment due to local lockdowns or players testing positive for COVID-19.
We look forward to welcoming players and fans back to Planet Ice Widnes at the soonest practical opportunity.
