The Wild Academy Under 13s team continued their impressive season with a 12 – 2 win over local rivals Deeside Dragons Under 13s at Planet Ice Widnes on Saturday.

The Wild Team were on top from the start and out-shot the Dragons by 48 to 12 over the course of the game. They took the lead in the ninth minute, with a goal from Aidan Lamb and he completed a first period hat-trick with two more goals.

A brace from Nathan Wilson had the Wild youngsters leading 5 – 0 at the first period break and a fourth goal from Lamb just 42 seconds into the second period, edged Widnes further ahead. A goal from Jared Knowles and a fifth strike from Lamb saw the Wild leading 8 – 0 at the second period break.

Two more Widnes goals followed – a hat-trick strike from Wilson and a goal from Theo Georgiou before Deeside finally opened their own account with two quick goals around the 38 minute mark.

A second goal for Knowles and a sixth goal for Aidan Lamb rounded off the scoring for the evening and the win sees the Academy youngsters consolidate their position in third place in the league table.

Saturday 11th January 2020: Widnes Wild Academy U15s 5 – Solihull U15s 6 (U15 North Div 3)

The Wild Academy Under 15s team narrowly lost out 5 – 6 in a highly entertaining and thrilling game against Solihull Barons Under 15s at Planet Ice Widnes on Saturday. This was a rather odd game in so much as Solihull took the lead and led 0 – 3 at the end of the first period and then scored three more unanswered goals to lead 0 – 6 at the end of the second period.

Widnes finally found the back of the net 8 minutes into the third period with a goal from Adam Case and Jake Meehan fired in a second just 30 seconds later.

30 seconds after that, team captain Liam Eaton made it three for the Wild and suddenly some sort of late fight-back looked on the cards. A power play goal from Case on 40 minutes rounded off an astonishing phase of play that had seen four Widnes goals scored in less than two minutes.

Meehan scored a fifth goal for the Wild with just 30 seconds left on the clock but there was not enough time left in the game for the Academy youngsters to pull back any further and the game ended in a 5 – 6 win to the visitors.

Net minder Harry Bird played his second game of the night, having earlier played for the Under 13s team and then played up an age level for the Under 15s as well.

The Academy Under 13s team have a busy weekend next weekend when they take on the Billingham Under 13s at home at Planet Ice Widnes on Saturday, 18th January – 6.15 pm face off and then travel to face Manchester Storm away on Sunday, also 6.15 p.m. face off.
