16th November 2019: Wild Academy U13s 12 – Deeside Dragons U13s 0 (EIHA U13 North Div 3)
The Wild Academy Under 13s team beat local rivals Deeside Dragons Under 13s 12 – 0 at Planet Ice Widnes on Saturday.
The game was actually quite close to begin with, with similar possession and shots on goal in the first period and it took until the ninth minute for Widnes to take the lead with a short-handed goal from Aidan Lamb. A second goal followed some 90 seconds later from Jared Knowles and the score remained 2 – 0 to the Wild at the first period break.
Widnes moved up a gear in the second period and out-shot Deeside by 20 – 2. Goals came from Thomas Warburton, a second for Lamb and then three in a row from Knowles. A hat-trick goal for Lamb in the 27th minute rounded off a hugely successful period for the Wild and saw them leading 8 – 0 after two periods.
The third period continued in similar vein, with a fourth goal for Lamb, a strike from Theo Georgiou and a brace from Nick Highcock. Netminder Harry Bird put in an excellent display in goal and received a well deserved “shut-out”.
The Wild Under 13s are next in action on Saturday 7th December when they travel away to face Blackburn Under 13s.
16th November 2019: Bradford U11s 8 – Widnes Wild Academy U11s 0 (EIHA Junior U11 North)
The Academy Under 11s team lost 8-0 away to the Bradford U11s on Saturday. Bradford opened the scoring after 2 minutes and were 3-0 up by the end of the first period. The second period saw three more goals for the hosts and the game was well and truly won with a two more in the third.
17th November 2019: Solihull Barons U15s 10 – Wild Academy U15s 5 (EIHA U15 North Div 3)
The Wild Academy Under 15 team put in a spirited performance away to Solihull Barons Under 15s on Sunday but came home on the wrong end of a 10 – 5 defeat.
Despite being heavily out-shot throughout the game, the Wild youngsters matched their Solihull opponents for the first two periods and only succumbed to mounting pressure in the latter stages.
Solihull took the lead in the eighth minute and were 2 up before Wild captain Liam Eaton scored the first Widnes goal of the game. The second period saw Solihull score twice more but then Widnes took advantage of a powerplay situation for Eaton to score their second goal. The Barons edged further ahead but two quick-fired goals from Eaton – his third and fourth in the game – pulled the score back to 5 – 4 at the second period break.
The Wild youngsters had done very well to keep themselves in the game but then 3 unanswered goals for the Barons at the start of the third period left them with a mountain to climb. Adam Vigh-Yecsey scored a short-handed goal for Widnes with 5 minutes left in the game but any hopes of a late rally were dashed with 2 goals within 40 seconds of each other by the hosts, which rounded off the scoring for the game.
Wild netminder Harry Bird – the regular Under 13s netminder, who was ‘playing up’ an age group – put in a fine performance in goal and turned away 35 of the 45 shots fired at him.
