The Wild Academy Under 15 Team got the new season off to a winning start with a 7 – 10 victory away to Blackburn Under 15s on Sunday.
Despite going a goal down after just 37 seconds, Widnes came back to win the first period by 2 goals to 3 and were leading 5 – 7 by the end of the second period – and then a 2 – 3 third period handed the Widnes youngsters a well-deserved win.
The Wild out-shot their counterparts by 34 to 15 over the course of the game and this was a creditable achievement in view of the fact that the team had several Under 13 players “playing up” in a higher age group for that game.
Adam Case was the Wild Academy’s top scorer with 4 goals, Thomas Warburton scored 2 and the other scorers were: Liam Eaton 1 goal and 1 assist, Adam Vigh-Yecsey 1+2, Nicholas Highcock 1+0, Benjamin Fox 1+0 and Jake Meehan, Liam Yarowod, Tristan Lewis, Harrison Lightfoot & Corbin Hutchcroft all 0+1.
The Academy Under 15s’ next game is also away to Blackburn on Saturday 19th October.
Next weekend sees the other 4 Academy teams all in action for the first time this season. The brand new Under 18s team are away to Manchester Storm this Saturday 14th September, the Under 13s are away at Deeside and the Under 9s are also away in Manchester on the same day. The brand new Under 11s team are away at Whitley Bay on Sunday.
