Academy Under 13s Dramatic Finish Brings First League Win

The Widnes Wild Academy Under 13 team won their first game in their debut season with a highly dramatic 6-5 victory over Grimsby Under 13s at Planet Ice Widnes on Saturday.

The Wild took the lead in the 3rd minute but were pegged back to 1-2 by the end of the first period. A 3-2 second period put them on level pegging at 4-4 but a strike midway through the third period edged Grimsby 4-5 ahead with just 7 minutes left to play.

With three minutes left on the clock, the Wild’s Cody Ogden scored the equalising goal – his fourth of the game – and then fired in a dramatic late winner with just seconds remaining.

The other Wild goal was scored by Adam Vigh-Yecsey who contributed 1+3 and Nicholas Highcock was chief playmaker with 5 assists.

The win sees the Academy U13s move up into third place in the league table. Their next game is on Sunday 24th February when they take on the Deeside Dragons U13s at Planet Ice Widnes – 4.20pm face off.
