The Widnes Wild are delighted to announce the capture of Tom Fielden from league rivals Blackburn Eagles. The 6ft 4” player grew up in Blackburn playing alongside the Wilds Chris Preston and is known for his commitment to his team and his ability in the corners.
Tom is a player that fits in with the strong team ethos that is evident in the Wild dressing room and at the age of 31 brings experience of the game that will contribute to the development of younger players. In addition his size will give Head Coach, Mark Gillingham, options in games of a more physical nature.
Tom said; “I would like to thank Scott and everyone at the Eagles for my time there and I’m glad they are having a great start to the season. I’m looking forward to starting a new challenge playing for the Wild. The set-up in Widnes is really good and the players and management have made me feel really welcome. Although it’s not been the best start to the season so far for the Wild there is a long way to go and I know we can win games and climb the league table.
Tom’s long-time friend and Wild stalwart commented; “This is a great move by the team to bring Tom in. He’s a physical team player but he can also play hockey. Having Tom as part of the team will add size but more importantly it’ll add someone who buys into what Mark is building here in Widnes and I’m sure the fans will welcome him”.
The Wild’s next home game is away against Bradford on the 26th October. Tom’s away shirt is available to own ‘n’ loan with details here.
