This Sunday the RTL Widnes Wild will be officially retiring the number 64 shirt in honour of Greg Ruxton on Sunday night prior to the game against the Altrincham Aces. This means that no Wild player will ever be able to wear the number 64 again. The Aces game was chosen as it means that Greg will have played with or against virtually every player and coach involved in the game.
Greg has been a stalwart of North West hockey playing both ice and inline hockey since he was a child and will be the guest of honour on Sunday. Greg decided to retire at the end of last season after playing a massive part in the Wild winning their first piece of silver wear. Greg was one of the first signings for the Wild when the y formed and he met his fiancé, Holly, through the club. Greg now resides in Widnes along with Holly and his son, Teddy. Greg has now gone on to sit his level 1 coaching qualification and continues his involvement with the club as both a coach and as a club ambassador.
The Wild have asked Mark Gillingham to speak on behalf of the club at the presentation as Mark has played with Greg since they were kids as well as coaching Greg at the Wild.
To incorporate honouring Greg there are some slight changes to Sundays game times with doors opening at 4:30pm and the teams warming up on ice at 4:35 pm. The presentations will take place from 5:10pm before a 5:30pm faceoff.
We hope as many hockey fans as possible will join us to celebrate Greg and what he has given to the club.
