As was announced last week, Jon Anderson, has taken the decision to step down from the role of GM which he has performed since the 15/16. A passionate person Jon has been part of the highs and lows of the RTL Widnes Wild and has been instrumental in the development of the club. Shortly after Jon’s decision was announced he posted the following on Facebook;
After much deliberation, I’ve decided that now is the right time for me to step down as General manager of the Widnes Wild. This is due to the fact that I can no longer offer the team the time and commitment that it rightly deserves.
To the players & staff – it’s been an absolute pleasure managing/working with you guys. You’re a top bunch of lads/girls and along with our success, we’ve had loads of laughs along the way. I’m really gonna miss you! 😘
To the fans – You are the heartbeat of the club and your support has made the Wild into the formidable team that they are today. It’s been a real pleasure getting to know all of you guys too! Keep on cheering and hopefully the lads will win you the playoff AND league trophy this year!!! 😁
Good luck to you all for the future!
Speaking on behalf of the Wild Matt Lloyd said;
“It is a said day for the Wild losing such an amazing person. Ando and I have been through a hell of a lot together behind the scenes and I will miss his humour, his energy and his love of the town and the team. Ando will also be welcome at the Wild and will hopefully share in many fantastic memories in the future”.
Going forward the Wild would like to announce Mike Teinert as the new Wild GM.
Commenting on his appointment Mike said;
“I have followed the Wild since they were formed keeping a keen eye on results and have held a season ticket with the club so it was a great honour to be approached by the management team and asked to take on the role of the club General Manager. Ice hockey is a major part of my life both watching the Wild and playing this great sport with the Widnes based Riverside Raiders rec team. I’ve been involved in managing the Raiders for a about 18 months so I feel I bring to the Wild a background in the GM roll and do all I can to assist and help the team in our push for success during the current season and into the future.”
“I will be working closely with Ollie and the coaching staff to achieve league and playoff success this season and continue from the very strong position that Jon Anderson left the club in. In taking on this role, I will not just the team GM, I am a fan, so I will join everyone in celebrating the success and making the Wild the great team that we all know it is. Widnes Wild is a hockey family and I’m really excited to be joining it.”
Speaking about Mikes appointment, Matt said;
“Ando’s shoes are very big ones to fill but I’m sure that Mike is up to filling them. Mike isn’t new to the team and has been involved since early this season. Already this season Mike has experienced highs and lows with the team and I’m sure going forward there will be a lot of highs as he works with Ollie and the team to fill the cabinet with silverware.
