With the deadline for signing players drawing close we have been busy trying to fill the gaps caused by our ongoing injury problems.
A regular at training for the last few weeks Josh Grocutt has been given a chance to step up to the team. Josh last played league hockey at Solent & Gosport several years ago before moving to Spain where he played Roller hockey at a high level. Josh has struggled a bit with fitness but has put the effort in and worked hard on and off the ice to earn his place on the team.
Manager Mick Caunce said“We knew we had Josh coming in late last week and his registration went through on Monday, but after loosing Filip on Sunday I knew we needed another quality forward. Luckily Calum Ruddick found out that Aled Robets was coming back from two years in Canada and wanted a team to join. Aled is a product of Deeside junior development and is a big presence on the ice. Although I don’t know him I asked around and everyone spoke highly of him so I quickly snapped him up!”
Aled arrives in the UK on Monday so will miss Sunday’s home game against Hull Jets, but hopefully available for the following weeks visit of Blackburn Eagles.
“I was approached by one other player and I am awaiting there decision in the next day or so. With Andy Clark due back from sea next week we should be able to ice 3 good lines for the rest of the season”
Hull Jets travel to Widnes for the second time this season on Sunday for the usual 18:15pm face-off time. £5 per adult, £3 per child. Come along and welcome new boy Josh Grocutt to the team!
