The YKK Widnes Wild are delighted to announce the signing of Solomon Smith. Solomon is a d-man who started his hockey career at Haringey Hounds before going onto play juniors at Romford and Slough. As an adult Solomon has played for NiHL 2 teams Haringey Hounds and Sheffield Senators as well as representing the GB University team alongside Dan Fay and more recently winning the LATAM Cup championship with the Jamaican national team.
Solomon stands 5ft 10” tall and scored 12 points in 18 games last season whilst only picking up 16 minutes in penalties.
Speaking about his signing Solomon said;
“I‘m delighted to be signed by Widnes. It’s a good club that knows how to compete. I’ll be hoping to add to the line-up and contribute to winning the league”.
Mike Clancy, Wild Head Coach commented on Solomon’s signing,
“I had been talking to Solomon throughout the summer and at one point thought we had lost him to the Steeldogs, however I was delighted when Solomon came back to me in August to ask if he could still sign for the Wild, something which I happily agreed to do on the condition we didn’t announce his signing until he was back at University and training with the team”.
“It came as a complete surprise when Matt (Lloyd – Wild Chair) phoned me up to ask if it was true that we had signed a Jamaican International Ice Hockey player and is something that I was delighted to find out”.
Solomon will be wearing the number 38 for the Wild this season and his home, away and warm-up shirts are available to own ‘n’ loan.
