The YKK-sponsored Widnes Wild are pleased to announce that long-serving forward Ken Armstrong will be returning for his eighth full season with the Club.
Armstrong was one of the first players to join the Wild when the team started back in 2013 and he took part in their very first game. Since then he has notched up 231 appearances over 7 seasons and the recent spring series, scoring 21 goals and 28 assists and picking up 48 penalty minutes. Having taken part in the recent NIHL North 21 Cup, Three Rivers Cup and Division 1 National Championship matches, Ken is now the leading appearance holder for the Wild – three ahead of Tom Jackson, who was sidelined due to injury.
He learnt his junior hockey at Altrincham and went on to play over 80 ENL / NIHL league games for the Lancashire Raptors and Blackburn Eagles, before joining the Wild.
Talking about his return to the Club for the new season, Armstrong said:
“It’s great to be back at Widnes for another year and I’m looking forward to the start of the season and getting to play in front of the best fans again. We have had some big changes over the last year, with players leaving and a new coach and manager coming in.”
“The 2 mini series and the national championships were a success and it was great to get back on the ice with the team plus some great additions that have gone back to their respective teams. I’m excited to see what we can achieve this year with the team Haggar and Wez are putting together”
Wild player coach Richard Haggar said:
“Ken is Widnes through and through. He certainly will need no introduction and to have someone around the club like Ken will only be a benefit to everyone in our first season in Division 1. His experience and calmness both on and off the ice will only be a benefit to everyone in the club and I am glad King Ken is back!”
Ken will once again be wearing the No. 9 shirt and his home, away and warm-up shirts are available to own and loan. More information can be found by following this link.
