Ollie’s The Ace As Wild Win Away At Altrincham

Pre-Season Challenge Game: Altrincham Aces 3 – Widnes Wild 6

Widnes Scoring: O Barron 2 goals, Brittle, Dipnall, Niamatali, Fico all 1 goal

The RTL Widnes Wild emerged victorious from their first match of the season after a 3-6 win away at norwidnes barron at aces 27th august by steveth-west rivals Altrincham Aces in a challenge match.

The game had a rather odd look to it as neither team had received their playing kits for the new season. The Widnes Wild team had to borrow the Riverside Raiders black and purple colours for the night (with the Raiders players’ names still on the back…) while the Aces were sporting red training tops which had, luckily,  just arrived on Thursday.

As one might expect, it was a closely contested encounter with both teams icing new signings and also some old acquaintances being renewed on the ice. The first strike of the night came from Wild’s new player coach Ollie Barron and another former Sheffield Spartan – Stuart Brittle – added a second to give Widnes a 2-0 lead at the first break.

The Aces pulled two goals back early in the second period but Widnes eased back in front with goals from Shaun Dipnall, Karl Niamatali and Michal Fico to lead 5-2 at the 40 minute mark.

Another goal from the Aces pulled the home side back to just 2 behind but the Wild finished off the night’s scoring with a second goal for Ollie Barron.

The return fixture is tomorrow evening (Sunday 28th) at Silver Blades Widnes as the Wild host Altrincham Aces in a 5.30pm face off. Door open at 4.45pm and admission is £6 for adults and £3 for children.

If you can’t make the game, match updates will be posted on Twitter and Facebook.
