The Blackburn Hawks and the YKK Widnes Wild are delighted to announce they will be playing each other in two pre-season friendlies. Last season the Hawks finished 7th in division 1 under James Neil with 28 points whilst the Wild were crowned league and playoff Champions of division 2.
The first game will take place on the 7th September at Planet Ice Blackburn with the second game taking place the following night at Planet Ice Widnes.
The games will be the first time that the Hawks and the Wild have played each other since 2016 when they faced each other in the NIHL North Cup.
Hawks Head Coach James Neil commented,
“As we prepare for the NIHL N1 season, pre-season games give us a great opportunity to work on our systems and skills, it’s great to be finally welcoming the Wild to the arena for the Hawks first game on the new ice pad”.
James continued, “It will give both sets of supporters and opportunity to see where the teams are before the start of the new Midland Cup competition.”
On behalf of the Wild, Mike Clancy, added,
“These fixtures will give both teams the opportunity to assess each other ahead of the cup games and for both teams to fine tune ahead of the league season. Both games should be very competitive and give fans a glimpse of what to expect for the season ahead.”
Tickets for both games will be available in due course through both ice rinks and the Planet Ice online events system, keep your eye out on each teams respective websites for further details.
The Wild will be announcing another home friendly for the 1st September later this week.
