The YKK sponsored Widnes Wild’s home game this Sunday 11th November against Coventry NIHL Blaze coincides with Remembrance Sunday and it also marks the Centenary of the Armistice that brought a halt to hostilities in World War One.
As such the club are going to take the opportunity to mark the occasion with a special commemoration before the game which will be attended by the Royal British Legion and their ceremonial Standard Bearers.
A poppy wreath will be laid on the ice before the game and the Last Post will be sounded before a two minutes’ silence.
The evening as a whole will be dedicated to those who lost their lives in the First World War and the many other conflicts worldwide since then while, at the same time, celebrating the great spirit of the people during wartime and conflict.
The Royal British Legion will have collecting tins with them for people who would like to make a donation to the annual Poppy Appeal.
The last time we had the RBL Standard Bearers at the rink for Remembrance Sunday, it was a very poignant occasion and the eerie atmosphere around the rink during the bugle calls and the 2 Minutes Silence was absolutely electrifying.
That being the case, it would be appreciated if fans could arrive at the game a little earlier than usual on Sunday and be in their seats for 5.10 / 5.15 so that they can take full part in the occasion.
