The Widnes Wild women’s team lost ground at the top of the WNIHL Division 1 North league table after a 7 – 2 defeat away to reigning champions Telford Wrekin Raiders on Saturday.

Telford took the lead in the fourth minute and were 2 – 0 up by the end of the first period. They went 3 – 0 ahead on 28 minutes but the Wild Women struck back with a short-handed goal from team captain Emma Pearson on 32 minutes to give themselves hope of a fightback.

Unfortunately, Telford re-established their 3 goal lead just 60 seconds later and edged further ahead with a fifth goal to lead the game 5 – 1 at the second period break.

Two more quick-fired goals within 30 seconds of each other in the 49th minute, put the game well beyond Widnes’s reach and a second goal for Emma Pearson in the 58th minute rounded off the scoring for the game.

The result sees Telford move to the top of the league table with three wins from three games to date, while the Wild Women have one win and one defeat from two matches.

The Widnes Wild women are next in action on Sunday 15th December, when they take on the Solway Sharks ladies team at Planet Ice Widnes.
