John Anderson, Richard Charles, Callum Fraine and Mark Gillingham have all committed themselves to the RTL Widnes Wild for the 2016/17 season.
Wild Assistant Coach Richard Charles will be back behind the bench as McKenzie’s side-kick, to advise and run the bench while Callum Fraine and Mark Gillingham will retain their positions as bench coaches. Player- Coach Scott Mckenzie is pleased to have the spine of the team back for another season;
“The first thing I wanted to do was secure the coaching staff and management team. The most important part of any Ice Hockey Club is structure, these four men are a huge asset to the club and we have to appreciate what they bring to the Widnes Wild. Individually they bring different elements but as a whole it just works. I really want Richard to have more say with the junior academy as he is great with the kids and is very switched on regarding their needs and development. In saying that he is a huge part of the senior team and is a massive help for me personally as a calm head on the bench. Callum and Mark have also played a big part this year, two guys that almost fly under the radar but bring a huge amount to the club. It is great to have them back and hopefully will provide more specific roles for them next season.”
Back as General Manager is John Anderson. John is the face behind the Riverside Raiders, a very well ran and organised Recreational team in Widnes. McKenzie approached Anderson last summer and is very pleased he made that decision;
“John is a guy that wears his heart on his sleeve. He is passionate, cares a lot about the club and the players and there are no limits to what he is prepared to do to make the Widnes Wild successful. His organisational skills are second to none, is a true professional and I am delighted to have him back on board with us for the 2016/17 campaign.”
The RTL Widnes Wild GM is pleased to be back helping the club grow for at least another year;
“The whole feeling around the Wild last season was that we had a winning formula, we acquired a great player/coach in Scott, a great group of players, amazing off-ice team and of course the best fans in the league. We suffered with injuries late on in the season that left us short bench at some big moments in the season, but all said and done, the guys managed to make 2nd place and also the final of the playoffs, which is a great achievement from the guys. I am really excited to be a part of next season as we look for top spot and to gain promotion to Moralee Conference. We have a solid team bond at Widnes, with great foundations that should see great things to come in the not so distant future.”
