The YKK-sponsored Widnes Wild travel to face Moralee Division Solihull Barons this Sunday 15th December in the NIHL Midland Cup – face off 5.30 p.m.
The Wild have picked up 2 points in the Cup competition this season with 5 – 5 regulation time draws away to Nottingham Lions and at home to Blackburn Hawks.
However, the Barons won the first game in Widnes 3 – 9 back in October and, with the Wild currently struggling with injuries and other player unavailability, Sunday’s encounter looks likely to be a tough test.
Looking ahead to the game, Wild Head Coach Mike Clancy said:
“I have been reviewing the match videos that Colin has produced to see if I can try and come up with a strategy that will give us an edge, so I have lots of ideas about how I want the team to play and we will be trying those out in training on Thursday.”
“On Sunday I am hoping we can go there and compete. I’d like to say in my heart of hearts that we could come out of this with 2 points but I’d rather be open and honest with everybody on this one and I think it is more a matter of competing. I don’t want them to walk away with it and I certainly don’t want a team that is going to give up, so I want to go there and give them a really good game.”
The YKK-sponsored Widnes Wild are away to Solihull Barons on Sunday and then travel to face Sutton Sting in the NIHL Midland Cup next Saturday, 21st December.
They are next at home on Sunday, 22nd December when they return to Laidler Division action and take on the Hull Jets for the first time this season at Planet Ice, Widnes – 5.30 p.m. face off.
Widnes Wild Women
The Widnes Wild Women’s team play their second home League game of the season on Sunday 15th December, when they take on Solway Sharks Ladies at Planet Ice Widnes, 5.30 p.m. face off.
The Wild Women played the Sharks Ladies in two pre-season friendly games, winning 6 – 10 away and drawing 8 – 8 at home, so there are likely to be a lot of goals in this first ever league encounter between the two teams. The Sharks Ladies have won all 4 of their league games so far this season and are joint League leaders, along with Telford Wrekin Raiders.
The Wild Women have only played two League games so far, beating Sheffield Shadows at home, before losing away to Telford.
The Wild Under 18s are in action this Saturday, 14th December 2019, when they take on league leaders Manchester Storm at Planet Ice Widnes – 7.45 p.m. face off.
Straight before that, the Wild Under 11s are at home to Billingham at Planet Ice, Widnes – 6.15 p.m. face off. Admission to both Academy games is free.
The Wild Under 15s team are away to Solihull – also on Saturday, 6.15 p.m. face off.
