The YKK-sponsored Widnes Wild have a busy weekend ahead of them as they face a difficult trip away to Altrincham Aces on Saturday – 7.00 pm face off – and are then at home on Sunday when they take on the same opposition at Planet Ice Widnes, 5.30pm face off.
The Aces are having a very good season and currently sit third in the Laidler Division table with 24 points from 18 games. They won in Widnes for the first time back in early November with a – slightly surprising at the time – 3 – 4 victory. Since then, they have put in impressive performances against table topping teams Bradford Bulldogs and Hull Jets and have won 7 of their last 8 games.
Widnes won the first league meeting between the two teams 3 – 5 away in Altrincham in early October, so honours are currently tied between the two local rivals with the Wild just having a slight edge by one goal overall.
The two games this weekend are hugely significant for both teams and, needless to say, two wins at the weekend would provide a huge boost for the Wild’s hope of defending the league title that they won last season.
The home game on Sunday faces off at 5.30 p.m. with doors opening at 4.45 p.m.
The Academy Under 11s are at home on Saturday, 25th January, when they take on Whitley Bay Under 11s – face off 6.15 p.m.
The Wild Academy Under 18s team are also in action on Saturday, when they take on Sutton Sting Under 18s team at Planet Ice Widnes – 7.45 pm face off. Both games played between these two teams so far this season have been drawn, so both sides have plenty to play for.
Entry to all Wild Academy team games is free and spectators are urged to come along and support the stars of the future.
