Weekend Preview: 19th & 20th January

The YKK sponsored Widnes Wild are without a game this weekend but there is still competitive ice hockey to be seen at Planet Ice Widnes!

The Wild Academy Under 13 team are at home this Saturday 19th January when they entertain the Nottingham Under 13 team – face off is at 6.50pm and admission is free.

The Widnes Wild women’s team take centre stage this Sunday 20th January when they take on the Nottingham Vipers in the Women’s Premier League at Planet Ice Widnes – 5.30pm face off.

The Vipers have been league leaders for much of the season, having won three of their five league games to date, but were knocked off the top of the table by Kingston Diamonds after last weekend’s games, although the Hull-based side have played more matches.

The Wild women lost 11-2 away in Nottingham back in October but are concentrating mainly on player development this season, rather than winning trophies, having taken on more than a dozen new inexperienced players during the summer with a view to building a solid team base for future years.

The game on Sunday at Planet Ice Widnes faces off at 5.30pm.

The YKK Sponsored Wild NIHL team are back in action a week on Saturday – ie 26th January – when they travel to Telford to take on the Tigers 2 team. Widnes are next at home the night after – on Sunday 27th January – when they entertain the Blackburn Hawks development team at Planet Ice Widnes. Face off is at 5.30pm and doors open at 4.45.
