The YKK sponsored Widnes Wild take the relatively short trip along the M56 this Saturday, 5th October 2019 to face local rivals the Altrincham Aces at the Planet Ice Rink in Altrincham – 7 p.m. face off.

The Wild have already played the Aces twice in pre-season games, winning both by a considerable margin but now that the Laidler Division season is fully underway, nothing can be taken for granted.

The Wild have had a mixed start to the league campaign, where they are hoping to defend the Laidler Division title that they won last season. They lost their first league game at home to Sheffield Senators and then won away in Sheffield but currently languish in 7th place in the league table. However, the Wild are currently playing matches in the Midland Cup and once they catch up in terms of the number of league fixtures played, they should be occupying a more realistic table position.

The Aces have played 4 Laidler Division fixtures so far, winning 2 and losing 2 – their most recent result being an impressive 7 – 3 win over early season league leaders Bradford Bulldogs. There is always a lot of rivalry between the Aces and the Wild, due to the proximity of the two teams and regular interchange of players over the years. As such, games between the two teams are never dull and the game on Saturday is likely to be highly entertaining.

For anybody who can’t get to the game at Altrincham on Saturday, the Wild Academy Under 18s Team are at home and they play the Deeside Under 18s Team at Planet Ice Widnes. The Wild Under 18s team are new in the league this season and are improving with every game. This is a great opportunity to go along and see potential Wild NIHL stars of the future and all support will be greatly appreciated. Face Off is 7.45 p.m. and admission is free.

The Wild Academy Under 13s Team are also at home on Saturday, when they entertain the Blackburn Under 13s Team. That game faces off at 6.15 p.m. and admission is also free.

The Wild Academy Under 9s Team are away in Telford on Saturday, where they are taking part in a milti-team cross ice tournament.

Wild Women’s Team

The Widnes Wild Women’s Team are in action this Sunday, 6th October, when they take on the Sheffield Shadows in their first Women’s Division One North league game of the Season.

The Wild Women have had a good pre-season campaign, winning once and drawing once against likely championship contenders Solway Sharks Ladies and will be keen to get their League season proper off to a flying start. The women’s game on Sunday faces off at 5.30 p.m. and admission is just £1.

As part of a new commercial initiative for this season, the match is being sponsored by Unison Liverpool John Moores University and also by a group of fans – Andrew Shutt, Paul Boardman, Martin Naden and Sam Ellison – who pitched in together as part of a fundraising appeal on social media.

There are still several match sponsorships available for the new season – and a few individual player sponsorships as well. Packages start from £50 and can be tailored to suit every budget and pocket. More information is available from Sponsorship Co-ordinator Kat Garner at kathryngarner123@hotmail.co.uk.
