The RTL sponsored Widnes Wild will be doing their bit to support a very worthy cause this Sunday 18th December when they stage their annual “Winter Classic” game at Silver Blades Widnes.
This year the game will be played in aid of the Cathie Stankevitch Foundation social inclusion charity and the opponents will be a Widnes All Stars team featuring past Wild players and other north-west players.
All Stars players who have already been named include former Wild players Tom Revesz, Bradley Valentine, Josh Grocutt, Antony Melbourne, Richard Charles, Craig Williams and Joe Charlton.
Also icing for the All Stars are Widnes Wildcats rec team netminder Barry Sprakes, former Wild head coach and now assistant coach Mark Gillingham, former Liverpool Leopard, Deeside Dragon, Trafford Metro and Telford Tiger and current Wild junior academy coach Lol Paul and Wild team manager and Riverside Raiders player Jon Anderson.
Current Team GB women’s international – and former Widnes Wild women’s team player – Sarah Hutchinson will also be appearing, as will current Blackburn Hawks player coach Steve Duncombe, Hawks assistant manager Anthony Kinder and Altrincham Aces’ Mikey Gilbert.
Last but not least, making a welcome return for the second Winter Classic in a row is Jesse McClure – star of ITV4’s reality TV show “Storage Wars”.
Special shirts have been produced for the All Stars team to wear for the game and these are all available for sponsorship. To find out about more players being added to the All Stars roster and how to sponsor shirts, check out the Widnes Wild Ice Hockey Club Facebook page HERE .
Supporters will also be able to take part in an “Air The Bear” teddy toss by throwing stuffed toys onto the ice after the first goal is scored. The toys will be gathered up by the players and given to needy children to help brighten up their Christmas.
Please note that if you are going to throw a soft toy onto the ice that it needs to be securely wrapped in a plastic bag as they will unusable if they get wet / damaged.
Tickets are available on the door and are £6 for adults and £3 for children. The game faces off at 5.30pm at Silver Blades Widnes with doors opening at 4.45.
