Wild Academy U13s Finish Strongly Against Table Topping Nottingham

The Wild Academy Under 13 team lost 5-11 on Saturday night at Planet Ice Widnes to a very strong Nottingham U13 team, who moved to the top of the league table as a result.

Nottingham opened the scoring after just 50 seconds of the game and were 0-3 up after 3 minutes. Two more goals saw them take a 0-5 lead into the first break and the game seemed done and dusted at that point.

The Wild team upped their game in the second period, however, and were rewarded with their opening goal in the 17th minute scored by Cody Ogden. This was countered by three more quick-fire Nottingham strikes before Ogden slotted home his second goal and he completed an impressive second period hat trick in the 27th minute, although Nottingham had scored again by then to make the score 3-10 at the second period break.

Two goals for Widnes in the third period – from Tristan Lewis and Adam Vigh-Yecsey – helped to keep the score respectable for the Wild Academy but another strike in between for Nottingham meant the game finished at 5-11 to the visitors.

This is the first season that the Wild Academy have entered teams into the league and they are, for the most part, coming up against long established teams and players with 6 or 7 years playing experience behind them.

Looked at in this context, a 5-11 defeat to the league leaders is not a bad result – particularly as they lost 14-2 away to the same opposition earlier in the season.

The 5-goal haul is the U13’s highest score in a league game to date and despite losing at the weekend, they actually moved up a place in the league table after the Grimsby team failed to fulfil their fixture away at Deeside and had their two league points removed as a punishment.

The Wild Under 13 team are next in action on Saturday 9th February when they entertain the Grimsby Under 13 team at Planet Ice Widnes.

Before that, the Academy U15 are at home on Saturday 2nd February when they take on the Deeside Dragons U15 in a local derby game. Face off time for both games in 6.50pm and admission is free.
