The RTL-sponsored Widnes Wild have their last home game of the regular Laidler Division season this Sunday 25th March when they take on the Sheffield Senators at Planet Ice Widnes – 5.30pm face off.
Despite having already secured qualification for the end of season playoffs, there is still plenty to play for in terms of league points and player pride.
As things stand, the Senators are the only team in the league who have a superior playing record against the Wild, having won 2 games in the 3 encounters to date between the two sides, compared to Widnes’ one victory.
The Senators have missed out on the play offs and will finish in sixth place in the league table. Since beating Widnes home and away before Christmas, they have struggled against the top teams in the league and have lost 5 of their last 7 games. Their last game, however, saw them beat the new league champions Sutton Sting 7-5 so the Senators will not be pushovers by any means.
The Wild lost their last league game in sudden death overtime to near rivals Altrincham Aces and will be keen to finish the season on a high note in front of their home fans. With several of the Widnes team originating from Sheffield, there will be some extra spice to this fixture as they aim to get one over on their former club-mates.
The RTL-sponsored Widnes Wild play the Sheffield Senators this Sunday at Planet Ice Widnes. Face off is at 5.30pm and doors open at 4.45.
The Halton Huskies recreational team have a challenge match against the Solihull Grizzlies this Saturday 24th January at Planet Ice Widnes. Face off is at the somewhat tardy hour of 10.15pm and admission is free.
DON’T FORGET THAT THE CLOCKS GO FORWARD 1 HOUR OVERNIGHT ON SATURDAY AND THAT MATCH TIMES FROM SUNDAY ONWARDS ARE SHOWN IN British Summer Time (BST).
