The YKK Widnes Wild would like to announce they will be playing two pre-season games against local rival the Altrincham Aces. These games will gives Wild fans their first opportunity to see this seasons Wild team as well as giving new Head Coach Mike Clancy his first opportunity to experience the #WildOnes support from the bench.
The first game will face off at 5:00pm on Sunday 25th August at Planet Ice Altrincham with the Wild’s first home game taking place at Planet Ice Widnes on Sunday 1st September with faceoff at the usual time of 5:30 p.m.
At the home game on the 1st September the Wild will officially retire the number 7 shirt to recognise the achievements of Ollie Barron as both player and coach for the past three seasons and all four of the Wild’s trophies will be on display.
Speaking on behalf of the Wild, Club Chair Matt Lloyd said,
“It is important that we welcome in the new season by recognising and celebrating the achievements of the past 3 years and the best way we can do that is by retiring the number 7 shirt. What Ollie achieved, supported by Mark Gillingham and the players, was truly remarkable and there are some big skates left to fill”.
“That said we will also welcome Mike Clancy as our new Head Coach who I am sure will do an amazing job and who I am confident fully understands the ethos and culture that has been established in Widnes. Mike is committed to developing exciting young players and I’m sure this will become a trademark of future Wild teams and earn Widnes a reputation as the team that all exciting young players aspire to play for”, Matt continued.
August will also see the return of Time To Go Wild radio for a third year as well as a revamped YKK Widnes Wild website and further growth of the Wild’s social media coverage.
