The RTL sponsored Widnes Wild face another road trip this weekend with an away game against Coventry Blaze this Saturday 25th February – 6.45pm face off.
Coventry are bottom of the Laidler Conference table with just three points from 21 games – all of which came from matches against second bottom team Bradford Bulldogs. Widnes beat Coventry 9-2 earlier in the season and then won 0-3 on their previous visit to Coventry at the start of the year but their recent meeting between the two teams saw the Blaze put in an especially good performance at Silver Blades Widnes and the game ended up in very close 6-4 win for the Wild.
The Wild have already secured second place in the table and still have a mathematic chance of catching leaders Blackburn Eagles if results go their way, so every point counts.
Looking ahead to Saturday’s game away at Coventry, Wild player coach Ollie Barron said:
“We cannot afford ourselves to underestimate the Blaze. Although they haven’t had much success in terms of wins this season, they work hard for each other for 60 minutes and have a number of players capable of finishing the puck.”
“I hope to see as many Wild Ones as possible at the Skydome, the support last weekend was fantastic and great to see.”
Following this game, the Wild are away again next Saturday – their 4th away game in a row – where they take on the table topping Eagles away in Blackburn – before returning to Silver Blades Widnes the week after that for their next home game against Hull Jets on Sunday 12th March.
