Saturday 4th January: Wild Academy U15s 8 – Blackburn U15s 1 (U15 North Div 3)
The Widnes Wild Academy Under 15s team got the new calendar year off to a good start with an 8 – 1 win over Blackburn Under 15s at Planet Ice Widnes on Saturday.
Widnes took the lead on 7 minutes with an unassisted goal from Adam Case and, despite being heavily outshot during the first period, the score remained 1 – 0 at the first break.
Blackburn drew level on 21 minutes but a short-handed goal from team captain Liam Eaton edged the Wild back in front and then a first ever goal for Ellen Tyrer extended the lead to 3 – 1 at the second period break.
Widnes were looking much more confident in the latter stages of the game and a second goal of the night for Adam Case just 47 seconds into the third period put them 4 – 1 ahead. Two further goals from Liam Eaton, one from Liam Yarwood and a hat-trick strike from Case finished off the scoring for the evening.
Netminder Harry Bird – who is, in fact, an Under 13s player and has been playing up a level for the Under 15s as well – put in another excellent performance, turning away all but one of the 21 shots that he faced.
The win sees the Wild Under 15s consolidate their position in second place in the Under 15 North Division Three table.
The Wild Academy Under 15s are at home to Solihull Under 15s on this Saturday, 11th January 2020 – 7.45 p.m. face off.
The Academy Under 13s are also at home on Saturday – to local rivals Deeside Dragons Under 13s – 6.15 p.m. face off. Admission to all Academy games is free and supporters are encouraged to come along and cheer the Wild stars of the future.
Also on Saturday, the Wild Academy Under 9s team travel away to Deeside to take part in a multi-team cross-ice tournament.
