The YKK-sponsored Widnes Wild return to the ice after last weekend’s break with fixtures against teams at both ends of the Laidler Division table.
On Saturday they travel to Telford to take on the Telford Tigers 2 team who are one of the Wild’s main challengers in this season’s title race, although they are sitting 10 points behind the Wild with just 10 games left to play in the regular season.
The Wild lost 0-2 away in Telford earlier in the season – one of only two league defeats for Widnes – and then narrowly beat them at home 2-1 so Saturday’s game is likely to be really close, and the remaining two meetings between the teams this season will go a long way to deciding the destination of the league title.
On Sunday the Wild entertain the league’s bottom placed team – the Blackburn Hawks 2 development team – at Planet Ice Widnes.
The Hawks2 team have lost all 22 of their league games this season, shipping 284 goals in the process and, while there are no stone cold certainties in ice hockey, it would be hard to foresee anything other than a home win for the Wild on Sunday. The Wild beat the Hawks 2 with a record-equalling 22-2 scoreline back in October and have also won 2-14 and 1-9 away in Blackburn.
The YKK sponsored Widnes Wild are back in action this Saturday 26th January when they travel to Telford to take on the Tigers 2 team. They are then at home the night after – on Sunday 27th January – when they entertain the Blackburn Hawks development team at Planet Ice Widnes. Face off is at 5.30pm and doors open at 4.45.
