Widnes Wild player coach Richard Haggar had the following to say after the 10-2 challenge match win over Sheffield Titans on Sunday:
“The game was an excellent way to start the season. We started off slowly but, as the game went on, we worked on a few different things we wanted to try out ready for the season, which is what pre-season is all about.”
“We have a lot of new faces so, to get lines together and getting everyone some game time before the weekend ahead was vital for us.”
“A lot of credit has to go the Sheffield Titans – as a D2 team they showed a lot of heart and talent to keep trying throughout the game no matter what the score was, especially with a lot of young players and will be ones to watch in their league in the upcoming season without a doubt.”
“However, I felt by the third period everything started to click – which is what we hoped for with a lot of positives to take away but highlighted some areas in which we need to work on.”
“It was great also to see so many fans back in the building cheering us on too and I hope to see even more next week for our first home league game of the season.”
