The YKK-sponsored Widnes Wild are pleased to announce the signing of netminder Evan Coles for the forthcoming 2021/22 NIHL season.
The 21 year old played for the Bradford Bulldogs in the 2019/20 season, icing on 15 occasions, although he was mainly used as a back-up netminder.
Prior to that, he played for the Sheffield Senators for two seasons, while at all the same time also making appearances for the Sheffield Under 18 and Under 20 teams.
Coles is a product of the widely-respected Sheffield junior development programme and made an appearance for the Midlands conference team at Under 11 level.
He has played in excess of 150 competitive games – 47 of them at Laidler Division level.
Talking about joining the Wild, Evan Coles said:
“I am looking forward to the coming season in a Wild Jersey. I am grateful to Richard and the management for giving me the opportunity to play in D1 for the Wild. I look forward to working with the coaching staff this year and hope for good things.”
Commenting on Coles’ signing for Widnes, player coach Richard Haggar said:
“Evan is a goalie I’ve known of for some time now. He has put up very good numbers for Bradford and Sheffield in D2 over the last few seasons. He is young but has a level head and a willingness to learn, develop and improve himself. In Evan we now have 2 very good goalies capable of playing D1 hockey this season and I looking forward to seeing Evan push Harrison Walker for that starting spot throughout the season.”
Evan Coles will wear number 39 and his home, away and warm up shirts are available to own and loan. More information can be found by following this link.
