Before you visit Planet Ice Widnes, we would like to give you an give you an idea of what to expect from your first time watching the YKK Widnes Wild.
Buying tickets to watch the YKK Widnes Wild couldn’t be easier and our friendly staff and volunteers will be on hand to help with anything they can.
Simply enter the ice rink via the main entrance (next to Nandos) and pay for your tickets at the reception. Entrance to the rink is 30 minutes before face-off. Once you have collected your tickets you will be guided to the seating area by a steward. Tickets can also be bought in advance and online.
Wild fans sit in the blocks nearest the entrance and behind player benches with the away fans sitting in the block of seats furthest away from the entrance an in line with the away teams goalie in the first period. The mezzanine floor is reserved for the teams sponsors and VIPs.
Ice hockey is fast-paced and physical with teams having up to 22 players with six players on the ice at any time; one goalie, and five players who skate up and down the ice trying to take the puck and score a goal against the opposing team. The game is divided into three, twenty minutes periods and if there is a draw after the three periods then there will be five minutes of sudden death overtime, followed by penalties if necessary.
Sport and ice hockey especially ice hockey can be very exciting and emotional however fans are asked to show consideration to the other people in the building. Ice hockey is a family sport and there are often a lot of children watching the game and so abusive language is not tolerated and anyone using abusive or foul language will be asked to refrain or leave the game.
During the game the puck may occasionally escape the netting and plexiglass glass so fans are asked to keep an eye on the puck at all times. If the puck does escape it is normal for fans to keep the puck as a souvenir of the game.
Fans are requested not to walk in front of other fans whilst the game is being played, but instead to wait for a pause in the action.
The ice rink is dry but can be cold so please dress appropriately. A brief guide to the rules can be found here.
Due to current COVID rules all fans are requested to wear a mask at all times.
