The YKK sponsored Widnes Wild are pleased to announce the return of Czech forward Jakub Hajek for the forthcoming 2021/22 season.
This will be Jakub’s third season with the team, having originally joined from local rivals Altrincham Aces in the summer of 2018. In that time he has scored 67 goals and 82 assists in 70 games for the Wild – with 64 PIM – and was part of the league and play off winning team in the 2018/9 season.
Hajek will be the Widnes team’s third overseas trained player for the 2021/22 season alongside with Latvian Vlads Vulkanovs and German player Dani Haid. League rules only allow two imported players to ice in any one game but having a third import will allow the Wild to rotate players over the course of the season and allow cover for injuries and other player unavailability.
The 32 year old played 4 seasons of senior league hockey in his native Czech Republic for HC Jablonec – which is about 100 km north east of Prague near the borders with Poland and Germany and HC Lomnice – near Brno – before joining Altrincham Aces for the 2017/18 season.
Talking about his return to Widnes, Hajek said:
“I’m happy to be back for another season with Wild, looking forward to play Div 1 and to be back in front of our great fans. The team looks good so far and I’ll try to do my best to help the team for some good results.”
Widnes Wild player coach Richard Haggar commented:
“Jakub is another I am expecting big things from in D1. 123 points in 2 seasons at D2 speaks for itself. He’s quick and has good stick handling ability and is a player who can score goals. Widnes fans know exactly what to expect from Haj and I am looking forward to seeing him show his ability at this level too.”
Jakub will once again wear the number 12 shirt and his home, away and warm-up shirts are available to own ‘n’ loan. More information can be found by following this link.
