The YKK sponsored Widnes Wild are pleased to announce the signing of netminder Harrison Walker for the forthcoming 2021/22 season.
The outstanding young netminder was an important part of the recent NIHL Division 1 National Championship winning team and the squad for the Three Rivers Cup series.
The 19 year old played his junior hockey at Bradford coming up through their highly regarded development programme and also played for the Blackpool Seagulls Under 16 team.
He has made Conference appearances at Under 13, Under 15 and Under 17 levels and has played for Team GB at Under 16 level. Harrison was also selected for the GB Under 18 team to play at the 2020 World Championships, although that never came about due to the coronavirus pandemic.
He played a full season for the Blackburn Hawks in both 2018/19 and 2019/20 while still a Bradford Under 18 player and also made some appearances for the Bradford Bulldogs in the Laidler Division.
He also played in 9 games in the NIHL National Division for the Leeds Chiefs during the 2019/20 season.
Wild Player Coach Richard Haggar said of Walker:
“Harrison is a young goalie with huge potential and showed what he’s capable of throughout the Three Rivers Cup. He is one I wanted to return to Widnes straight away and am happy he’s decided to stay with us for the upcoming season. He’s incredibly talented, very agile and a top quality shot stopper. He also has the right attitude and work rate to fulfil his potential with no doubt he is one to watch not only in Widnes but for the future of British ice hockey.”
Talking about his return to the Wild for the new season, Harrison said:
“I am happy to be back at Widnes after the mini series and really looking forward to working under the management and coaching staff.”
Harrison will wear the number 32 and his home, away and warm up shirts are all available to own and loan. More information can be found by following this link.
