The YKK sponsored Widnes Wild are pleased to announce the signing of Joe Greaves for the forthcoming 2021/22 NIHL season.
Wild fans will be familiar with Greaves as he spent most of the 2014/15 season playing for Widnes and has also put in some memorable performances at the Planet Ice rink while playing as a visiting opponent.
Greaves spent the last regular season playing for the Blackburn Hawks in the NIHL Moralee Division and he also appeared in their team for the recent NIHL North Cup. Prior to that, he played 8 seasons at Altrincham for the Aces and their predecessors the Manchester Minotaurs and Trafford Metros.
He played junior hockey at Bradford, Deeside and Manchester and also a season of University hockey for the Manchester Metros teams.
Despite only being 28, Greaves has a huge amount of experience, having played over 240 league and cup games at NIHL level. In that time he has scored 133 goals and 92 assists and picked up 945 penalty minutes. In seasons 2016/17 and 2017/18, Greaves was the most penalised player in the Laidler Division while playing for the Altrincham Aces.
Talking about Greaves’ signing for Widnes, Wild head coach Richard Haggar said:
“Joe is returning to Widnes with a point to prove. His attitude really impressed me and is a guy who brings not only a physical presence but an eye for goal.”
“Joe set out over his last season to make a point that his focus on the ice now is to put goals and points up for his team, and it showed in his stats!”
“I expect him to lead by example this season and really take this opportunity to showcase his talent where he has put up numbers previously.”
Looking ahead to his return to Widnes, Joe Greaves said:
“Thanks for the opportunity to play for the Wild. After their recent success, it will be a good experience to get involved with a club that has a great set up and a vision. I hope I can have a positive impact with the team and build on the club’s success.”
Joe will wear the number 94 shirt and his home, away and warm-up shirts are available to own ‘n’ loan. More information can be found by following this link.
