Saturday 15th January 2022 – Nottingham U16s 1 – Wild Academy U16s 2
The Wild Academy Under 16 team picked up a superb 1-2 win away to Nottingham Under 16s on Saturday.
Widnes opened the scoring on 12 minutes with a goal from Nathan Wilson and the score remained 0-1 at the first period break.
This was a very closely matched game and could have gone either way – and there were plenty of chances at both ends but the second period played out goal-less leaving the Wild youngsters with the narrowest of advantages heading into the final period.
Nottingham equalised on 34 minutes but Widnes hit back with a goal, from Jaxon Kirk-Jones – his debut strike for the club – just 70 seconds later and that turned out to be the winning goal.
Harry Bird put in an excellent display in the Widnes goal – almost getting a shut out – and saving 22 of the 23 shots that he faced.
Saturday 15th January 2022 – Manchester Storm U14s 4 – Wild Academy U14s 2
The Wild Academy Under 14 team lost 4-2 away to Manchester Storm Under 14s on Saturday.
Manchester took the lead in the 5th minute but Widnes equalised on 10 minutes with a goal from Jared Knowles. Two more goals followed for the hosts on either side of the first period break and a 4th on 28 minutes gave them a commanding lead heading into the final period.
A second strike for Knowles on 39 minutes narrowed the deficit but that was the last goal of the game and Manchester held on for the win.
