The Widnes Wild Academy Under 13 team played their first match in over a year following the coronavirus lockdowns and picked up a 1-4 away to Blackburn Under 13s in the new Planet Ice Cup on Sunday.
This is a new competition that is being played over the summer months where the different age group teams based at Planet Ice operated rinks around the country are playing each other in a series of games, divided in to North and South groups.
The Wild Under 13 team are playing once home and once away against Under 13 teams from Solihull, Manchester, Coventry and Blackburn and their next game is at home to Coventry U13s on Sunday 16th May.
The Wild Under 15 team are also playing against the same opposition in the Under 15 cup and their first game is this Sunday 9th May at home to Solihull U15s at Planet Ice Widnes.
The games are being played under strict health and safety conditions as part of the English Ice Hockey Association’s “Return to Play” strategy. At present, no spectators are allowed into the venues to watch but that might change in time as the Covid restrictions are gradually lifted.
