The YKK-sponsored Widnes Wild are pleased to announce that popular defenceman Tom Jackson will be returning to play for the forthcoming 2022/23 NIHL season.
This will be Jackson’s 10th year at Widnes, having originally joined the Wild midway through the 2013/14 season from Hull where he played his junior hockey.
Overall, Tom has played 264 games for Widnes – just one behind all-time appearances record holder Ken Armstrong – and has scored 16 goals and 53 assists from his defensive position, picking up 323 penalty minutes.
Jackson was an important part of the team that finished 3rd in the Moralee Division and won the Moralee Cup last season and has previously won three Laidler Division play off crowns and one league title. He was also a member of the Wild team that won the North 21 Cup and the Division 1 National Championship during the Covid lockdown 2021 season but had to miss most of the games with a broken leg sustained in an away game at Sheffield.
Wild player coach Richard Haggar said of Jackson:
“TJ is Widnes through and through. He works hard, leaves everything on the ice and plays for the team. He had a difficult season as he continued to work his way back from a bad injury in the Covid series but with a full pre-season under his belt, I will be looking for TJ to reach the high standards we set of each other again to help the team continue to be successful as well as helping to develop the younger players in the team.”
Talking about his return to the Wild, Tom said:
I am glad to be back for the 10th season with the club and excited to start playing hockey again. With the core of the group remaining from last season, we’ve given ourselves a foundation to build on once again for the upcoming season.
I can’t wait for the competitive games to get started and have another opportunity to wear a Wild jersey for the upcoming season! It would be great to see the stands full again come the first home game of the season!”
Tom Jackson will once again wear the number 84 shirt and his home, away and warm up shirts are available to “own and loan” at a cost of £80.00 per shirt for the season.
