The YKK sponsored Widnes Wild are pleased to announce that former Hull Pirates defenceman Tom Stubley will be joining the club for the forthcoming 2021/22 NIHL season.
He is an outstanding young British player who, despite only being 22 years old, has already played over 250 games at senior competitive level – most of them in the EPL and NIHL National Division for the Hull Pirates and one season with the Peterborough Phantoms – and also made 8 appearances in the Elite League for Hull.
Stubley learnt his junior hockey with the highly regarded Kingston development programme at Hull and has played at conference level at all age groups from Under 11 to Under 17. He has played World Championships hockey for team GB at Under 18 and Under 20 level – picking up an U20 bronze medal in 2018 – and also played for the England U19 representative team against Scotland in 2015/16 and 2016/17.
The 6’1” defenceman was a member of the Hull Pirates team that won the NIHL Moralee Division treble of league, cup, and play off title in the 2018/19 season and played an incredible 69 games for the Pirates in the debut season of the National Division in 2019/20, before the season was cut short due to the covid pandemic.
Talking about his signing for the Wild, Stubley said:
“It’s been a long lay-off from hockey but I’m really excited to get going in Widnes. Once the news from Hull came out, Richy reached out and it seemed like a really good fit for me. I can’t wait to get started and win some games with the Wild.”
Wild player coach Richard Haggar said of Stubley:
“Tom needs no introduction. Once I found out the Hull Pirates were no longer entering a team, I wanted to bring Tom in straight away and was lucky enough that he was available, understood our goals and aims, which he wanted to be a part of.”
“He brings skill, experience and dedication to the team. At 22 he’s still young, level headed and an exciting talent who will help the team develop on and off the ice our first full season in D1. I can’t wait to get on the ice and for the Wild fans to see what Tom has to offer!”
Tom will wear the number 56 shirt and his home, away and warm-up shirts are available to own ‘n’ loan. More information can be found by following this link.
