The YKK sponsored Widnes Wild will be looking to build on last week’s Three Rivers Cup win over Nottingham Lions when they take on the Sheffield Scimitars in back to back games this weekend.
They are away in the Steel City on Saturday – 7pm face off – and then host the same team at Planet Ice Widnes on Sunday, starting at 1.30pm.
Sheffield have made a very good start to this competition and lead the table with 3 wins from their 3 games to date. They beat Widnes 5-2 in their opening game and have also beaten Nottingham home and away. The Scimitars have assembled a strong squad including former Elite League and GB player Warren Tait and former Wild player coach Scott McKenzie, who is the top goal scorer in the competition so far.
Two wins for the Wild this weekend would see them move to the top of the Three Rivers Cup table with three games left to go, whereas one win would see them move ahead of Nottingham in second place.
The games are being played behind closed doors under strict safety protocols as part of the EIHA’s “Return to Play” strategy. As such no spectators are allowed into the venues to watch but they will be live-streamed over the internet – and also covered on the Wild’s official Twitter feed, so there is no need for anybody to miss out on the action.
