Weekend Preview

The YKK sponsored Widnes Wild return to action after a Covid-enforced break last weekend with an away trip to face Blackburn Hawks this Sunday 9th January – 6pm face off.

The Wild start the New Year in their highest ever league position – 4th in the NIHL North Moralee Division – and have played fewer games than any other team. They are, admittedly, 9 points behind second place Whitley Warriors and 11 behind leaders Solway Sharks but they do still have to play both of those teams twice more. Drawing on the fact that the Wild recently picked up a league point for a regulation time draw away in Dumfries and then beat the Sharks in a two-legged cup semi final, all things are still possible.

The Wild’s first home game of the new year will be on Sunday 16th January when they will take on the Hawks again at Planet Ice Widnes – 5.30pm face off.

The Widnes Ladies are at home this Sunday 9th January when they take on league leaders Sheffield Shadows in the Women’s Premier League at Planet Ice Widnes – face off 4.15pm.

The Wild Junior Academy have their first games of the new year this weekend.

The Under 14s take on Sheffield Under14s in a league game on Saturday 8th January – 3.20pm face off – and that is followed by a challenge match between the Wild U18s and Leeds U18s at 4.50pm.

The Wild Under 10 team are in Bradford on Saturday for a 4 team cross ice tournament where they will take on teams from Telford and Manchester Storm as well as the hosts. The action there starts at 4pm

Admission to all Academy home games at Planet Ice Widnes is free and spectators are encouraged to go along and support the stars of the future
