The Wild Academy Under 16 team had a superb season in the highly competitive 9-team Under 16 North Division 2, finish 3rd in the league table, winning 12 of their 16 matches.
They finished just 2 points behind runners up Sheffield and only 5 points behind league champions Leeds, who went through the season unbeaten.
Apart from home and away defeats to Leeds, the only team to take a point off Widnes all season was Sheffield, meaning that the Wild youngsters notched up impressive home and away victories over local rivals Blackburn and Manchester Storm and long established teams such as Solihull, Nottingham and Sutton.
The leading points scorer for the season was Liam Yarwood with 30 goals and 8 assists in 18 league and challenge games while Cody Ogden was a close second with 23+11.
Netminder Harry Bird, played in all 18 matches as did Yarwood, Luke Alston and Samuel Hockey.
Jaxon Kirk Jones was the top Penalty taker with 31 minutes from 13 league and challenge games.
Open Sessions For Players
The Wild Junior Academy are running open sessions during June for players who might be interested in joining the club for the new season.
The Academy operate teams at Under 10, 12, 14, 16 and Under 18 level and the open sessions will be held as follows:
Under 10s and Under 12s: 6pm to 7pm – 28th & 30th June
Under 14s and Under 16s: 7pm to 8pm – 28th & 30th June
Under 18s: 8.15 to 9.30pm 27th June / 8pm to 9pm 28th June.
Sessions cost £10 per player, payable on arrival, and all players must be EIHA registered in order to take part. Parents are invited to talk with Academy staff over a coffee while their children are on the ice.
