Three current Widnes Wild players turned out for their respective Great Britain Universities teams in one-off challenge matches against elite opposition on Friday evening at iceSheffield.
Peter Toth and Brady Doxey played for the Great Britain Universities men’s representative team against NIHL South side Milton Keynes Thunder, with the GB team easily winning 11-2.
Wild women’s team player Sav Sumner turned out for the Great Britain Universities women’s team against Women’s Elite League champions Solihull Vixens on Friday but the girls didn’t fare as well as their male counterparts, losing 0-6 – although they did have a goal contentiously disallowed.
Talking about her GB experience, Sumner said:
“I was extremely honoured to have been selected for the Great Britain Universities squad. From the beginning it had been a firm goal of mine to represent my country, therefore I couldn’t be any more delighted. It was a great experience to be out on the ice with the team for us to showcase all the hard work we have been putting in over the last year.”
