Wild Women Back In Match Action

The Widnes Wild women’s team played their first game in some 16 months when they travelled to face the Sheffield Shadows in a friendly game on Sunday.

It was very much an experimental side for the Wild team – with several players taking part in their first ever match and others trying out different playing roles – and, with the team only having been able to train together properly since Covid restrictions were relaxed in May, nobody was too disheartened by the resulting 10-2 scoreline. The Wild goals were scored by Katie Fairclough and Natalie Buckles.

More challenge matches are being planned for the coming months as the Wild women prepare to defend the WNIHL Division 1 North title that they won back in March 2020 and details will be announced nearer the time.
